AI for Podcast Production and Marketing: The Full Stack
How to use AI from recording to distribution — and turn every episode into a multi-channel content machine.
A podcast used to require an editor, a producer, a social media manager, and a copywriter to execute well. AI has made it possible for one person to run a professional-quality show and extract the full marketing value from every episode.
Here’s the full workflow.
Pre-Production: AI-Assisted Research and Prep
The time-sink before recording: researching your guest, understanding their work, writing questions that produce interesting answers.
AI workflow for guest research:
- Feed the AI the guest’s LinkedIn, recent interviews, book summaries or articles, and any relevant talks
- Ask: “Based on this person’s work and perspective, identify the three most interesting angles for a conversation that my audience [describe audience] would find valuable. For each, suggest five specific questions.”
- Generate a question bank, then curate to the 15 you’d actually ask
This takes 20 minutes instead of two hours — and the questions are often better because AI surfaces connections across the guest’s body of work that you might miss in manual research.
Post-Production: The AI Editing Stack
Transcription. AI transcription (Descript, Whisper, AssemblyAI) is now accurate enough for most use cases. Produces an editable transcript that doubles as your content raw material.
Audio cleanup. AI tools remove filler words, silence, and background noise with a single pass. Not perfect — you’ll want to review cuts — but dramatically faster than manual editing.
Show notes generation. Feed the transcript to an AI assistant: “Write show notes for this episode. Include: a two-paragraph summary, five key takeaways, timestamps for major sections, and a list of resources mentioned.” Takes two minutes; produces 90% of what you’d write manually.
Title and description. “Based on this transcript, write five potential episode titles and a one-paragraph description for Apple Podcasts. The title should be curiosity-inducing and clear about the value for someone who hasn’t heard the episode.”
Content Repurposing at Scale
This is where the real leverage is. Every hour-long episode can produce:
- LinkedIn posts (5–7) — Pull the most quotable moments from the transcript. Prompt: “Extract the five most insightful or surprising statements from this transcript and rewrite each as a standalone LinkedIn post with context.”
- Twitter/X thread — “Turn the key insights from this episode into a 10-tweet thread. Lead with the most surprising takeaway.”
- Email newsletter — “Write a 300-word email that summarizes the episode’s core idea and links to the full episode. Tone: direct and conversational.”
- Blog post — “Turn this episode transcript into a 1,000-word blog post. Don’t transcribe it — restructure the ideas into a well-organized article with sections.”
- Short clips identification — “From this transcript, identify five 60–90 second segments that would work as standalone clips. Include timestamps and explain why each segment works independently.”
One recording session produces a week’s worth of content across channels.
Podcast SEO and Discovery
Podcast discoverability is improving, and AI helps you optimize for it.
Episode title optimization: Use AI to generate 10 title options, then evaluate them against: Does it clearly communicate the value? Does it contain a keyword someone might search? Is it specific enough to stand out in a feed?
Transcript-based SEO: Publish episode transcripts as blog posts. Full transcripts are long-form, keyword-rich content that ranks well. AI can clean up and structure raw transcripts into publishable blog posts in minutes.
Guest network activation: Prompt AI to draft a personalized message for each guest with their specific shareable assets (their quote graphic, their episode link, suggested caption text). Make it easy for guests to promote — most of them will if the friction is low.
Guest Outreach That Gets Responses
The pitch to a potential guest is a sales email. Most podcast pitches fail because they’re generic.
AI-assisted outreach:
- Research the guest (see pre-production above)
- Identify the specific angle or topic you’d want to explore with them that connects to their current work
- Prompt: “Write a 150-word podcast pitch to [person] that references their recent [specific work], explains the specific angle we’d explore, and makes the time commitment clear. Tone: genuine, not sycophantic.”
Review and personalize further, but the AI draft is a faster starting point than a blank page.
